Robbery
JW was charged with Robbery for allegedly reaching over the counter of a gas station and grabbing cash out of the register. After the suspect ran off with the money, the clerk called police and gave them a description of the robber which included long dreadlocks. The robber wore a partial face mask, but the clerk believed the robber to be JW, who was a somewhat frequent customer of the gas station. Police issued an arrest warrant for JW and charged him with robbery. After investigating the case, we were able to show that at time of the robbery, JW's dreadlocks were a good bit shorter than the suspect's dreadlocks in the robbery video. The DA declined to dismiss the case even after we presented this exonerating evidence. Accordingly, we went to trial and, after viewing photographs of my client that were taken a few weeks before the robbery and comparing them with the surveillance video from the gas station, the jury found JW Not Guilty.
