Escape
JM was on parole and was required to wear an ankle monitor as a condition of parole. Unfortunately, JM struggled with mental health issues, lacked stable housing, and had difficulty keeping his ankle monitored charged. As a result, when the ankle monitor battery died, and JM's whereabouts were unknown for several days, an arrest warrant for felony Escape was issued. We attempted to get the DA to dismiss or reduce the Escape charge due to JM's circumstances, but when that failed, we set his case for a jury trial. Halfway through the trial, the DA relented and offered JM a misdemeanor plea that did not require any additional jail time. JM happily accepted the offer and was quickly released from jail.
