Assault
CJ was in town for a family reunion. He and several extended family members were in a hotel room drinking alcohol when an argument broke out between CJ and his cousin. The argument escalated and CJ is alleged to have broken a beer bottle over his cousin's head. The cousin's injuries required a few staples to close and CJ was charged with felony assault. At trial, despite the fact that CJ was not struck or injured during the incident, we were able to convince the jury that due to his cousin's larger size and threatening statements, CJ's response was justified and a reasonable exercise of self-defense. Accordingly, CJ was found Not Guilty of Assault.
